UPDATE! - DECEMBER 4, 2011.
Bishop Eddie Long takes leave from "New Birth" church, due to family issues. According to a Fox News Atlanta Report, December 4, 2011, Vanessa, his wife, filed for divorce on Thursday, December 1st. 2011. As of October 23, 2014, Eddie Long is still the pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist church in Lithonia, Ga., according to the church website.
Four young men filed a sexual misconduct civil lawsuit against mega-church pastor, Bishop Eddie Long, followed by a fifth man who was not named as a Plaintiff in the case. Standing before a congregation on Sunday morning, September 26, 2010, Bishop Eddie Long, addressed a large congregation at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia, giving notice that he will fight the lawsuit. Yet, Bishop Long never denied the allegations posed against his charactor and integrity as a pastor, leader, spiritual advisor, and teacher.
Bishop Eddie Long speaks with an educated, charismatic flair, that ignites the fuel of fire in many who heed his words. The congregation listened intently to hear Bishop Long's statement concerning the civil suit, in which he commented, "I've never portrayed myself as a perfect man." News Reports of some in attendance, left disappointed, as they never heard a rebuttal of firm resolve from the Bishop.
Anti-Gay activist Bishop Eddie Long is married to Vanessa Griffin Long, who stood by her man during the Sunday Morning address concerning the lawsuit. The age of consent of the young men is not at issue, as they are reported to have been over the age of 16 when the sexual misconduct by the Bishop took place.
The legal suit claims that Bishop Long gave the men gifts, jewelery, and a car. And during trips, they often shared rooms. Gerald Rivera, Fox News, Sunday, September 26, gave a rather detailed report concerning the allegations against Bishop Eddie long, stating in firm resolve, "He robbed from the church to pay these boys!" Rivera called Bishop Long "a holy hypocrite!"
As we wait for the details of this case to prove fact from fiction, I for one, am put off by the fact, Bishop Eddie Long did not readily dismiss the claims set before him. Leaving those to ponder, "there has to be some facts serving true concerning Bishop Long, as his silence on the matter seems rather self incriminating. While time will tell the true story, I am ever reminded of this one cause and effect. Your Sins Will Always Find You Out."
UPDATE - HOMOSEXUAL BISHOP EDDIE LONG, SETTLED SEX CASE OUT OF COURT
May 26, 2011
Bishop Eddie Long settled the four lawsuit claims alleging sexual coercion filed by Anthony Flagg, Spencer LeGrande, Jamal Parris and Maurice Robinson, along with a fifth man, Centino Kemp, 22, who also received settlement money. The Christian Post reported that Kemp, has Long's name tattoed on his right arm, and plans to write a tell all book about his relationship with Long, titled "First Lady". Their attorney, B.J. Berstein, the LongFellows Youth Academy and New Births, 25,000-member Lithonia mega-church, also confirmed the cases had been settled "without prejudice", meaning that the defendant cannot be sued by the plaintiffs again in the same alleged offense.
Bishop Long has an international following, and through a spokesman, had denied the men's allegations, confirming that he planned to vigorously fight them. It seems Long concludes that fighting the men's allegations, meant paying them off with money. Proving once again, that Long used his influence and power, to silence the lambs who were once sexually abused by him. The men were told by Long, that he was their "spiritual father." The moral to this Down Low story? "Men will fail you, but God, our true 'spiritual father' is a friend upon who we can depend."
